      “ "The Messenger" effectively portrays the ups and downs of the day-to-day life of those living on or near a military base. It is distinguished by Ben Foster's, Woody Harrelson's, Samantha Morton's and Steve Buscemi's performances. A scene involving Foster and Morton in Morton's character's kitchen is particularly touching. The storyline meanders, though, and the film needs pruning. "The Messenger" is better than many of the movies currently in release. ”
