    •  The film was satisfying for what it set out to do: document and peculiar and intriguing "human calculation" made by President Mandela during his initial days in office. As for the sports component, it was cool. I dug it. But, I agree with David that there are better characterizations out there. Heck, "The Bad News Bears" did a pretty good job with that ;)

It's difficult to criticize this film's screenplay, given that it is based on a true story, promotes the value of brotherhood and moves almost relentlessly towards an uplifting conclusion. The film really rests on the quality of Freeman's and Damon's seemingly effortless performances. They are major stars who resist the temptation to showboat. I recommend "The Damned United" and "Any Given Sunday" as more interesting sports-related films.
